Boy does this picture bring back memories.(the picture of the Fan Tail on the old web site).. After being cooped up for several days because of rough weather, I decided to take a book and a folding chair and sit outside to read in front of the aft gun mount. While some sea spray occasionally washed across the fantail, there didn't seem to be anything to worry about as I relaxed and read in the sunshine. Then without warning a wave came over the top of the gun mount, hit me like a ton of bricks, and washed me into the safety netting. It all happened so fast I never even knew what hit me. The folding chair was broken and I was soaked, but somehow, the book was dry.

Hi shipmates. My name is Tom Mazzone, I served on the Corry from Jun 46 to Jan 8th 48. I reported on board in Charlestown, SC along with 24 other raw recruits from Bainbridge, Md, I was initially assigned as a Pharmacist Mate striker. My nick name was Peon. At that time the M.O was Dr Richard Boyer, from Atlanta, Ga., Chief Pharmacist Mate C.R. Poythress, & 2nd class Jimmy Carter. While steaming in the Med. CPM M.O. Edwards replaced Poythress
At the time the Corry was part of DESRON 8 (the big black 8 ball on our stack) & we operated with the USS Wilson DD847, USS New DD818, Holder DD819, at times with the Rich DD820,& Noa DD841.
Enroute to the Med I was reassigned as a radioman strikker, because I was a half ass typist. The radio gang consisted of A.C. Emmet RD1/C, Wayne Susky 3/C and other srikker nammed R.C Nagasawa.

I'm looking for anyone who served on board during that time frame.
I can be reached by e-mail under Kiltyeast@aol.com or tel # 941-758-8140.or by U.S.mail, 4915 Kilty Ct, East, Bradenton, Fl 34203- Pls contact.

I just happened upon your website. My Dad Walter J. Peters II served on the USS Corry in 1950. My father's service in the Navy and on the USS Corry meant alot to my father and makes my very proud of him.My sisters's daughter Corry is named in memory of my Dad. (he tried hard to get my Mom to name one of us Corry). My Dad passed away on March 7, 1999 and was buried (transferred) to the new Saratoga Veterans Cemetery on 8-17 1999. My Dad would have really enjoyed this site. Nice job.

I was searching the web for information on the Corry and to my surprise I
found this site!!!!!!! I served on the Corry from late 1969 to December
1972. I still have my cruise books from the two Med cruises taken during
that period and enjoy digging them out to reminisce. However, the Rum from
our runs to Getmo is gone! (should have stuck a few more cases in the
hanger)

Smooth sailing to you all.

Thanks so much for this website. I remember sitting in a meeting of some committee when it was decided we would not get a cruise book. At the callow age of 18 I knew it was a bad idea and for 40 years I get nuts every time I think about all those great guys and I can't remember their names. We went to Cuba, to the Missile Crisis, to the Med, to Belize after the hurricane, rifles and all, up the narrow river to Richmond, everywhere, what a cruise, what a crew. I even laugh at the time we were riding out a hurricane, I had the mid watch on the switchboard in the forward engine room. It was so bad I had my arm lashed to a stanchion, sitting on the deck with my head in a s--tcan, blowing chunks. Everyone else was watching the inclinometer and hoping we wouldn't roll over. Martin, the head honcho in the engine room, was leaning on a valve control wheel just a few yards from me eating sardines from a can. When I would extract my head from the can and look over, he would raise a sardine by the tail over his head and drop it in his mouth and grin at me. I have never seen or heard of a sardine since I didn't think of that.

Hello, Rick Pamer was on Corry in 65 out of RD 'A' school. Made the Roanoke reunion and it was great. Nice hotel there. Looking forward to Charleston next year. Would love to hear from anyone on Corry during 1965 and the Med, Red Sea cruise.

Hello, my father served on board the USS CORRY from January 1955-December 1958. He served as the barber and store clerk most of his time on board. He does not have a computer so I will pass along any info or correspondence from anyone that served with him during this time. My father is Robert Earl Hoyle known to most of us as Bobby. He is from Morganton, N.C. and now resides in Nebo, N.C. My interest in my father's navy years has opened a door of discussion for us that I hope will be very informative and will be good for him also. He would love to hear from some of his shipmates and well as I would be interested in any stories that his shipmates may be willing to share. Please correspond with me at (klhoyle@icu2.net) and I will pass all info along to him. Give us a few days to respond back to you. Thank you for your time and God Bless all enlisted men --past, present and future. Thank you for my FREEDOM. I salute each of you. Randy Hoyle--489 Ashworth Circle--Marion, N.C. 28752.

hi everyone, I served on the Corry from Dec. 1965 to June 1966. I was ordered to the Corry after Basic at great lakes as a radioman striker. I later became a RM2 after school at Meridian NAAS. After a 2 year hitch there I was ordered to the USS Wright (CC-2) in Norfolk. I evently retired in the army reserves (912th M.A.S.H.) I sure have some fond memories of the Corry, especially of the guys in the Comm shack. If any of you guys read this, hows about getting in touch with me. Especially my very dear freind Ronald Pytlak(RM3), and Terry Moncure (RM3). Wishing everyone peace and happiness.
May God Bless

Wanted everyone to know the sad news that Leonard and Mary Golda who have been to several of our reunions including the one in Roanoke last year, lost their 41 year old son in a automobile accident recently. I know that thoughts, prayers and cards would be appreciated from Corry members at this sad time. We have sent one from the membership as a whole already.
